Your Child’s Future is Bright with Early Learning in Sight!

Genesee Intermediate School District proudly provides early childhood services and programs for children and families in Genesee County. Children who attend a high-quality early childhood program before kindergarten are better prepared for school academically, socially, and emotionally. We welcome all children, including those with disabilities or cognitive delays through home visiting and classroom-based programming.

In Genesee County we use a coordinated enrollment system. School districts and community-based providers who offer state and federally funded programs collaborate to provide early childhood services for children and families. All the partner agencies are committed to supporting families and ensuring that every child enters kindergarten ready to learn. These programs offer developmentally appropriate early childhood educational experiences in a high-quality, play-based environment. There is also a focus on the home-school connection as we recognize that families are an integral part in the learning process.

Early Head Start (EHS)

Early Head Start is a federally-funded, income based, early childhood program for expectant parents, infants and toddlers up to the age of 3. Its success is based on compassionate partnerships between staff, children and families. In Michigan, local Early Head Start programs work with families to remove barriers to success and to deepen parents’ ability to support their children. Early Head Start serves Genesee County children through home-visiting and classroom based programming.

Head Start Preschool (HS)

Head Start Preschool is a federally-funded, income based, preschool program for Genesee County children ages 3 to 5. The partnership between staff, children and families helps prepare children for kindergarten, work together to remove barriers to success and to deepen parents’ ability to support their children.

Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP)

GSRP is Michigan’s State funded Preschool program for 4-year-old children with factors that may place them at risk of educational failure. This program is designed for children who will be attending Kindergarten the following year. Research on preschool programs and specific research on GSRP indicates that children provided with a high-quality preschool experience show significant positive developmental differences when compared to children from the same backgrounds who did not attend a high-quality preschool program.
